Hanging Solar Pathway Lantern

Velleora Home Decor's Hanging Solar Pathway Lantern does two jobs from one fitting. Hook it onto a shepherd's crook, a fence bracket or a branch and it hangs like a storm lantern; lift it off, push the stake into the border, and it becomes a path light. Both ways it runs entirely on the sun - no cable, no socket and no digging.

A warm LED sits behind textured glass panels, which throw a patterned shadow onto the ground and the wall behind rather than a flat pool of light - the reason a single lantern does more for a border than a row of plain spike lights. The panel charges through the day, the sensor brings the lantern on at dusk, and the metal frame is finished to shrug off rain and frost.

Line a path with three or four for a soft run of light, or hang a pair either side of a door. Spring is the moment to set them out, before the borders fill in and shade the panels. Clean the panel face and the glass a few times a season, and switch the unit off if you store it indoors over winter so the cell holds its charge.
