The sphere is real crackle glass - a network of fine internal fractures - so a single LED inside is broken up and thrown outward in a scatter of small highlights rather than glowing as one flat ball.
Each orb is entirely self-powered: panel in the cap, cell and dusk sensor inside, no cable at all. It comes on by itself at nightfall and runs through the evening.
