Two different patterns are woven into the same mat, so flipping it over changes the scheme entirely - and doubles the life of the piece, since wear falls on whichever face is up.
The weave is a tight polypropylene that does not absorb water: rain runs through and the mat is dry again shortly after the sun comes back. It will not rot, mould or fade out to grey in a season of direct sun, and grit brushes out of the surface rather than working into it. It rolls up small enough to store over winter, and it is light enough to lift and shake out single-handed.
Use it under a garden table, along a balcony, in a summerhouse, or in a porch, boot room or caravan. Hose it down when it needs it and lift it to let the surface underneath dry out from time to time, so nothing is trapped damp against decking or paving.
