Easy Fill Hanging Hummingbird Feeder

Wide access matters more for cleaning than filling. Hummingbird feeders must be washed thoroughly every few days in warm weather, and a feeder that cannot be reached inside with a brush never really gets clean - which is how nectar ferments and starts harming the birds it is meant to feed.

It hangs from a branch, a bracket or a shepherd's hook. Use one part plain white sugar to four parts water, boiled and cooled, and nothing else. Never use honey, which grows fungus lethal to hummingbirds, and never use red dye or artificial sweetener. Empty, scrub and refill every two to three days in hot weather, and hang it in shade where you can.
