Bee Guard Hummingbird Garden Feeder
This Feeder from Velleora Home Decor has guards over the feeding ports that admit a hummingbird's bill but keep bees and wasps out of the nectar.
Insects are what ruin a hummingbird feeder. Bees crowd the ports and drown in the sugar solution, which fouls the nectar and stops birds visiting entirely - so a feeder that is not guarded often stops working within a fortnight of being hung.
Three designs are offered. Perches let birds feed sitting rather than hovering, which uses less of their energy and keeps them at the feeder longer. Clean it thoroughly every few days in warm weather and refill with fresh solution - fermented or mouldy nectar genuinely harms hummingbirds, and a neglected feeder does more damage than no feeder at all. Never use honey, red dye or artificial sweetener, and hang it in shade where possible.
