Description
This Decanter from Velleora Home Decor is cut lead crystal, which does two things at once: it looks like a decanter should on a sideboard, and the faceted cuts throw light through whatever is in it.
Decanting is not only presentation. Moving a spirit out of its bottle lets it breathe and opens the aroma, and a wide-based vessel gives more surface area for that to happen. For a shared bottle on a drinks trolley it also simply looks better than a supermarket label.
The stopper seats firmly to limit evaporation between pours. Hand wash it in warm water without detergent, which clouds crystal over time, and dry it inverted on a rack so no water sits in the base. Note that lead crystal is not suitable for long-term storage of spirits - decant for days or weeks rather than months, and keep it out of direct sunlight, which will fade the contents.
- Cut lead crystal construction
- Faceted design catches light
- Firm-seating stopper limits evaporation
- Opens aroma by letting spirits breathe
- Hand wash without detergent
- For short-term decanting, not long storage

Cut, Not Moulded
Cut crystal catches light in a way moulded glass never quite manages. Under a lamp the facets do most of the decorating for you.
A Stopper That Seats
The stopper seats firmly rather than resting in the neck. That keeps evaporation down between pours and keeps the contents where you left them.
The Base Does The Aerating
The wide base gives the spirit surface area, and surface area is what opens the aroma. Pour, leave it a while, and it will smell different by the second glass.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this cut crystal or pressed glass?
It is cut lead crystal. The facets are cut into the body rather than moulded in, which is why they throw light the way they do.
How long can I keep whisky in it?
Think days and weeks rather than months. A decanter opens a spirit up beautifully in the short term, but the bottle is still the better place for long keeping.
How should I wash it?
Warm water by hand, no detergent. Detergent clouds crystal over time. Rinse it well and leave it inverted on a rack until the inside is completely dry.
Will the stopper stop evaporation completely?
It slows it considerably rather than sealing it airtight. That is exactly what you want for short term decanting, where a little air is doing you a favour.
Where should I keep it?
Out of direct sunlight. Strong light is unkind to both the spirit and the finish, so a shelf or a cabinet suits it better than a sunny windowsill.
