Description
This Chopping Block from Velleora Home Decor is cut end grain, meaning the timber fibres stand vertically so a knife edge parts them rather than slicing across them. It is the construction used in professional kitchens, and it is why an end grain board costs more than a flat-cut one.
Two things follow from it. The board is far kinder to knife edges, so blades stay sharp longer, and the fibres close behind the cut rather than holding a scar - which means an end grain block does not develop the deep knife grooves where bacteria survive washing.
Acacia is dense, naturally water-resistant and strongly figured, so the board is a good-looking thing to leave out on a worktop or serve from. Hand wash and dry it immediately - never put it in a dishwasher or leave it soaking, which will split any timber board - and oil it regularly with food-safe mineral oil to stop it drying and cracking.
- End grain construction - kinder to knives
- Fibres close behind the cut
- Dense, water-resistant acacia timber
- Doubles as a serving board
- Hand wash and dry immediately
- Oil regularly with food-safe mineral oil

The Grain Stands Upright
Cut end grain, the timber fibres stand vertically so a knife edge parts them rather than slicing across them. It is the construction used in professional kitchens, and it is why blades stay sharp longer.
No Grooves To Hide In
The fibres close behind the cut rather than holding a scar, so an end grain block does not develop the deep knife grooves where bacteria survive washing.
Good Enough To Serve From
Acacia is dense, naturally water resistant and strongly figured, so Velléora Home Decor chose a timber worth leaving out on the worktop or carrying straight to the table.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is end grain worth the money?
Two reasons. The knife parts the standing fibres instead of cutting across them, so edges stay sharp longer, and the fibres close behind the cut so the surface stays smooth.
Will it scar with heavy use?
Far less than a flat cut board. Because the fibres close up again, it resists the deep grooves that collect food and survive washing.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. Hand wash and dry it immediately, and never leave it soaking. Prolonged water is what splits any timber board, whatever the species.
How do I keep it from cracking?
Oil it regularly with food safe mineral oil. It takes a minute, keeps the timber fed and deepens the figure in the acacia at the same time.
Can I serve on it?
Yes, and it looks superb doing it. Acacia is strongly figured, so a cheese or charcuterie board carried straight to the table needs no other styling.
