Resin, wax, soap or plaster. Follow the safety instructions that come with whichever material you are casting, particularly with resin.
Can I use it for food?
Only if the packaging explicitly marks it food safe. If it does not say so, keep it to craft use, and wash it before first use either way.
How do I get the cast out?
Peel the silicone back off it rather than pulling the cast out. That is what keeps the fine detail on the finished piece.
How long does the mould last?
Silicone is reusable indefinitely with reasonable care. Wash it out between casts and store it flat rather than folded.
Do I need anything else to start?
Only your casting material and whatever it calls for. Work on a protected surface and follow that material's own instructions.
