Solid wood also warms the light travelling through and around it, reflecting a soft amber tone onto whatever sits beneath. Over a dining table that flatters food and faces; a painted metal shade of the same shape would give a flatter, cooler result.

Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the timber dusted dry rather than wiped with anything damp.
