Crystal Glass Whiskey Decanter

Decanting is not only presentation. Moving a spirit out of its bottle lets it breathe and opens the aroma, and a wide-based vessel gives more surface area for that to happen. For a shared bottle on a drinks trolley it also simply looks better than a supermarket label.

The stopper seats firmly to limit evaporation between pours. Hand wash it in warm water without detergent, which clouds crystal over time, and dry it inverted on a rack so no water sits in the base. Note that lead crystal is not suitable for long-term storage of spirits - decant for days or weeks rather than months, and keep it out of direct sunlight, which will fade the contents.
