Acacia Wood End Grain Chopping Block
This Chopping Block from Velleora Home Decor is cut end grain, meaning the timber fibres stand vertically so a knife edge parts them rather than slicing across them. It is the construction used in professional kitchens, and it is why an end grain board costs more than a flat-cut one.
Two things follow from it. The board is far kinder to knife edges, so blades stay sharp longer, and the fibres close behind the cut rather than holding a scar - which means an end grain block does not develop the deep knife grooves where bacteria survive washing.
Acacia is dense, naturally water-resistant and strongly figured, so the board is a good-looking thing to leave out on a worktop or serve from. Hand wash and dry it immediately - never put it in a dishwasher or leave it soaking, which will split any timber board - and oil it regularly with food-safe mineral oil to stop it drying and cracking.
